General Information of Nepal

The Nepal is landlocked between two biggest country India and china. Geographically we can find amazing variation of altitude from sea level to the roof of the world (Mount Everest).  Most Nepalese live in the central, hilly region, which embraces the Kathmandu Valley, and in the southern plain known as the Terai. It is second richest country in the field of running water with high potentials of hydro electricity.

Nepal counts 8 highest mountains among 10th mountain in world (Mount Everest 8848m, Kangchenjunga 8586m, Lhotse 8516m, Makalu 8462m, Cho Oyu 8201m, Dhaulagiri 8167m, Manaslu 8156m, and Annapurna 8091m).  Nepal is home to 10 UNESCO World Heritage sites, including seven in Kathmandu Valley (Kathmandu Durbar Square, Bhaktapur Durbar Square, Patan Durbar Square, Swayambhunath, Pashupatinath, Boudhanath, Changunarayan), Lumbini (Birthplace of Buddha), Chitwan National Park and Sagarmatha National Park. The heritage sites have been nominated based on their cultural and natural value.

Nepal possess Forbidden Kingdom like Upper Mustang (lo Manthang) which is a remote and isolated region of the Nepalese Himalayas. We can find famous trekking route like ABC (Annapurna Base Camp) and EBC (Everest Base camp) where we can experience amazing land escape of Nepal

Nepal occupies only 0.1 percent of the total landmass of the earth which is home place to:

  • 2% of all the flowering plants in the world
  • 8% of the world’s population of birds (more than 848 species)
  • 4% of mammals on earth
  • 11 of the world’s 15 families of butterflies (more than 500 species)
  • 600 indigenous plant families
  • 319 species of exotic orchids

Demography and Religion

The population Nepal of was 29,033,914(As per the estimation of 2016 July) with female 51.56% and male 48.44%. Nepal has got 125 caste/ethnic where as Chhettri , Brahman-Hill , Magar , Tharu , Tamang , Newar , Kami , Muslim , Yadav , Rai , Gurung , Damai/Dholii , Thakuri , Limbu , Sarki , Teli , Chamar/Harijan/Ram , Koiri/Kushwaha , other. 123 languages has been reported as mother tongue in Nepal (Nepali (official), Maithali, Bhojpuri, Tharu, Tamang, Newar, Magar , Bajjika Urdu, Avadhi, Limbu, Gurung, other.

Nepal is one of the Hindu Kingdom in the world which comprise Hindu 81.3%, Buddhist 9%, Muslim 4.4%, Kirant 3.1%, Christian 1.4%, other 0.5%, unspecified 0.2%. The pashupatinath temple is considered as most important Hindus temple in Nepal. Lumbinī is a Buddhist pilgrimage site in Nepal which was listed under UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1997.

Religion: Secular, but mainly Hindu (81%) and Buddhist (11%), with a small Muslim minority (4%) and others (4%).
